~PARISH HOSTING CHRISTIAN UNITY SERVICE~
Our January calendar shows that we are hosting the Annual Amherst and Area Christian Unity Service next Sunday, January 24th at 7:00pm. This will be the last time we will be hosting an ecumenical service in St. Charles and the theme is “You are witnesses”. The service will be based on one prepared in Scotland, which is celebrating one hundred years of ecumenical prayer, study and cooperation. All are invited and we hope that there will be a good representation from our Parish. The Catholic Women’s League have graciously accepted to prepare the reception in our Church Hall following the service.
~PARISH POT LUCK SUPPER~
The Parish Life Committee will host our annual winter potluck Sunday, January 17th beginning at 4:30 in the Church Hall. Bring your favorite prepared recipe, dessert or rolls to share with fellow parishioners. Coffee, Tea and Juice will be provided. Entertainment will also be part of this gathering. Take a winter break and “Come, See & Share” the many excellent recipes prepared by the hands of fellow parishioners.
~HOLY WEEK PASSION PLAY~
Are you in Grade 6 to 12 and want to be part of our drama production of “Three Hours, One Friday – The Passion Play” for Easter, we are looking for you! We need actors, actresses, artists, carpenters, organizers, seamstresses and more. Do you have a skill or talent you want to share? We need you. Please contact Glenna or Sean O'Quinn at 660-3450 for more information.
~LITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE SERIES~
The Little Rock Scripture series is returning to the Parish beginning in February. This year's series focuses on Luke's Gospel, the gospel being proclaimed during the current liturgical year. Sessions will begin Thursday, February 4th beginning at 10:30am. If demand warrants, a Monday evening session will be scheduled beginning at 7:15pm on February 1st. The series will conclude April 18th. Cost per participant will be $15.00 to cover study materials. We use a combination of home study, group discussion and video lectures that has proven to be an effective adult learning style. We invite and encourage participation in this scripture study. Please contact Viola Corbett at 667-3274 or Deacon Howard 667-2523 for more information.
~M & M'S YOUTH MUSIC GROUP~
The youth music group ( M & M's ) will practice from 6:00 to 7:00pm next Sunday, January 24th in the Church Hall. They are preparing for the Family Mass on January 31st at 11:15. New members are invited to join the coolest, smoothest sounding group for youth. Come be part of the M & M's Youth Music Group. We practice and sing at the monthly family masses but also have loads of fun. Come to our practice and hear about upcoming events. ~RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS~
- Classes continue Sundays at West Highlands at 10:00am for Levels Primary to 5. Level 6 have moved from Wednesday evenings to Sunday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00pm in the sacristy of the church. Confirmation class meets on Sunday evening at 7:00 in the Church Hall
- The children have participated in an Advent project supporting the Holy Childhood Association over the Advent Season. Children received small milk cartons to place their pennies in as they thought about certain tasks outlined on an Advent calendar. Families may return the cartons to West Highlands School or bring them to the Church Office. We would like to have cartons returned by the end of January so the contribution to the Holy Childhood Association can be made in February. This association is a Catholic charity with projects around the world with the theme of children helping children.
COMMUNION PYX
Do you have a pyx for distributing communion to the sick and shut ins that you are not using? Please take the pyx to church and give it to Howard, Father or Maria.
~BAPTISM PREPARATION~
Parents wanting children baptized should call the Parish Office for Baptism preparation. Please call Maria or Deacon Howard at 667-2523 to book an appointment.
~CWL DUES~
CWL members who have not paid their $14.00 annual dues are urged to do so. Please place an envelope with your name and CWL Dues written on the front of the envelope in the collection.
CWL LOOKING FOR USED STAMPS
The Catholic Women's League collect used stamps. These stamps are then sent to the Scarboro Missions who make use of them as a source of revenue to support their charitable works. Please leave a border around the stamps when cutting them off envelopes. A container has been placed in the church entrance to accept your donations
~DOOR ENTRANCE NEEDED~
We are looking for a loan of a double steel door entrance system, preferably out swing, for our new church complex to use temporarily to secure the property. If you can help us out, please call the church office at 667-2523.
~VOTIVE CANDLES~
We often light a votive light as a prayerful reminder of someone or for a special intention. It is a practice that is centuries old. The 50 cent offering at Holy Family supports youth activities in the Parish and purchases votive candles for the stand. Funds were used to assist our young people who attended the Steubenville last summer. Please continue to support our youth in this manner.
~STEWARDSHIP CORNER~
The second reading from Paul to the Corinthians reminds us of the variety of gifts in a faith community but the same Spirit. There are also a variety of services but the same Lord. It is the one God who activates them in His people. Disciples must remember God's overwhelming generosity. The miracle at Cana is a reminder that faithfully doing what God asks can change our gifts from water into wine.
~SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION FOR HAITI NEXT WEEKEND~
The parish will be taking up a second collection next weekend to help the people of Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. We have attached envelopes to the bulletin for this special collection. We also ask you to keep the people of Haiti and their families throughout the world in your prayers.
