We have added a new page for the building news as it happens. This is the place to come for news and updates throughout the construction phase of the Holy Family complex. We have also started a photo page on Flickr. Check it out! Holy Family Parish Amherst Flickr site

~News from the Construction Site~

The masonry work continued on the outside walls throughout the week, so we thought a glimpse of the blue walls on the inside were in order. These photos were taken May 8th on a bright sunny Saturday morning.

~WE CELEBRATE TODAY~

Mother’s Day – along with the rest of North America and as Church we celebrate and rejoice in the gift of mothers this day.

~PARISH HALL WILL BE CLOSED TO ALL ACTIVITIES~

After next Sunday’s celebrations surrounding the closing of our Catechetical Program for this year, our Parish Hall will be officially closed to all parish functions. Because of the work related to the construction of the new church, the Parish Hall has become a workshop storage area. To ensure security, locks have been changed so that entry to the church and hall is limited.

For those interested and not able to pick up a form, a downloadable version is available on our Website. Legacy Fund Form

~CONSTRUCTION NEWS~

As is obvious to all, the placing of the exterior brick is continuing. In the interior, the blue board is being installed; metal door frames are in place. The power should be hooked up within the next week or so.

~STEWARDSHIP CONFERENCE~

Deacon Howard, Viola Corbett and Robert Chute attended a stewardship conference at St. Peter’s Church, Dartmouth held on Friday night and Saturday morning. The workshop focus was Stewardship and the Eucharist. The gathering was sponsored by the Archdiocesan Stewardship Committee.

~BLESSINGS ON ST. BENEDICTS IN HALIFAX~

Next Sunday afternoon in Halifax, there will be a great celebration of the dedication and official opening of the new St. Benedicts Parish Church, hall and offices. This brings together three former parish communities: Our Lady of Perpetual Help, St. Lawrence and St. Pius X.

~NOTICE OF SUMMER MASS TIMES~

Again this year, beginning on the May 23rd weekend and continuing until Labour Day weekend, our celebrations of the Lord’s Day Eucharist will be Saturday at 4:30pm and Sunday at 10:00am. Also, our weekday Mass schedule will change to Monday and Friday at 9:30am.

~PARISH LEGACY FUND ~

To date over 75 people have donated to the Parish Legacy Fund. For a donation of $100.00 a small engraved plaque will be placed on the back of the kneeler portion of the new chairs. Monies raised from this project will be used towards the cost of the new kneeler/chairs. This is a wonderful way to remember loved ones. If you are interested in purchasing a commemorative plaque toward the cost of the new chairs, please contact Maria at the Church Office.

For those interested and not able to pick up a form, a downloadable version is available on our Website. Legacy Fund Form

~HOLY FAMILY TRANSITION COMMITTEE~

The Transition committee wants to thank parishioners for contributions to our time capsule. A variety of items were donated that will reveal a significant part of our history as a community when opened at some future time in history. Your contributions were placed in a sealed plastic container that will be placed inside one of the pillars supporting the carport area of the new church.

An open house of Saint Charles Borromeo Church is scheduled from May 25th to 28th and also on June 1st and 2nd from 3:00 to 7:00pm. The open house will be for parishioners and the general public so people can come and admire the current church, spend quiet time or take photographs of the church as a keepsake. Saint Charles has been an iconic presence in downtown Amherst for many years and this will be an opportunity to visit the church at your leisure. Some parishioners will be available during this time to answer questions about the current church. For more information, please call Frank Allen 545-2886 or Chris Manuge 667-2711.

~MOTHER’S DAY~

Holy God,
You compare your own love for your people
In the love of a mother for her children.
Look with kindness on all mothers,
Give them comfort in moments of sorrow,
And joy in their work for their families.
Listen to their prayers,
And bless them in all they do for you.
Let them share with Jesus your son
And Mary our mother in the everlasting
Happiness of heaven.
Father,
We ask this grace through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.
