~News from the Construction Site~
This week we've added a few photos from the work-site. As well, a reminder that the The Legacy Project continues and the list of Surplus Equipment has been updated this week. The Photo Contest will be closing soon!
~LAST BULLETIN BEFORE THE BIG DAY~
This is the last bulletin before we move into our new church but that does not mean there is nothing happening:
- We are all still reeling from the good financial news shared with all last weekend. As promised, a letter has been sent out to all parishioners with the details of this generous offer and challenge. Click here to read the letter.
-
Our different committees and individuals are still working very hard in the preparations and people are being contacted who will have specific responsibilities and tasks to carry out before the opening.
-
Congratulations to our young people and their adult leaders in their Steubenville Fundraiser last weekend. They raised $593.00.
~EARLY NOTICE FOR OUR ANNUAL CEMETERY MASS~
This year Tuesday, August 17th is the date set for the Cemetary Mass beginning at 6:30pm. As always, in the event of rain, we will have the celebration of Eucharist in the Church.
~PARISH QUILT RAFFLE~
You are reminded to return your raffle tickets (in the collection or bring them to the Office). We thank the many families who have already returned their sold tickets. We will soon begin selling tickets on our beautiful quilt at various locations around town. Anyone interested in helping us to sell tickets is asked to call Judy at 667-1620.
~PARISH OFFICE CLOSED~
We ask you to note that the Parish office will be closed on July 1st to observe the Canada Day holiday as well as July 2nd.
~HANDBAGS & GLADRAGS!
We are looking for good used purses, wallets, clutch bags and scarves for an upcoming Parish fundraiser. You can drop these off at the entrance to the church in the boxes provided.
~PHOTO CONTEST EXTENDED~
The photo contest is extended until June 27 for submissions. Parishioners are invited to submit photos of memorable celebrations and events that took place in both founding parishes of Saint Charles Borromeo and Nativity of Our Lady. A panel will choose 12 or 13 submissions to be included in a Holy Family Parish calendar, available for sale late in 2010. Parishioners may also submit photographs of the current church, its windows and sanctuary etc. Photos can be left at the Church Office or sent digitally to hgotell@eastlink.ca For more information, please call Frank Allen 545-2886 or Chris Manuge 667-2711.
~VOLUNTEERS NEEDED~
Prior to opening our new church and hall, a number of tasks will require the assistance of parishioners. For example chairs for the new church should arrive sometime on July 5th. We will need 10 or 15 people to assist with unloading, unpacking, some assembling and placement of chairs in the church. Other tasks, especially during the week of July 18th will require volunteer assistance. If you are able to lift, assemble or do cleaning, we can use your help. Please call the Church Office at 667-2523 and leave your name. This is an excellent way to offer gifts of time and talent as we prepare to open our new worship area with Archbishop Mancini on July 25th.
~REFLECTION CARDS- ACT JUSTLY, LOVE TENDERLY, WALK HUMBLY~
Parishioners are invited to submit reflections on moments, memories, and events that express faith experiences that were meaningful for you that took place within our founding parishes and also hopes, visions and dreams as we move forward into our new facility. A container is placed at the entrance of the church to receive your submissions. Extra cards are also available to participate in this project. Cards will be available until July 18th and your submissions will be brought forward in the Offertory Procession on July 25th at our Mass of Dedication. We hope many of our parishioners will participate in this project of the transition committee.
~RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION~
The Rite of Christian Initiation is the process that invites adult inquirers to come to know our Catholic faith and tradition. Weekly gatherings begin late September – early October and continue until Easter. Participants gather with a team who share faith experiences and lead participants in finding out the meaning of being a Roman Catholic. Participation in the RCIA program does not obligate an inquirer to join the Church. It is a discernment process that asks for your full commitment and participation with the team. If you ever wondered about our faith and would like to know more about the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, please contact Sister Teresa Currie 667-5611 or Deacon Howard Gotell 667-2523.
~STEUBENVILLE ATLANTIC 2010~
Steubenville Atlantic for 2010 will take place at St. FX University in Antigonish from July 30th to August 1st. To date 11 young people and chaperones from Holy Family Parish are participating in the event. Places are still available for additional registrations. Cost of this year’s event is $210.00 for registrations after April 10th. A non-refundable $50.00 deposit is due within 10 days of the group’s registration. Steubenville Atlantic is for high school youth and also includes those preparing for Confirmation. The weekend includes music, celebration and social interaction from young people from across Atlantic Canada. Interested young people, please call Deacon Howard at 667-2523, Geoff Baldwin 686-3021 or Maria Boudreau 661-0667 for more information.
~PARISH LEGACY FUND~
To date over 140 people have donated to the Parish Legacy Fund. For a donation of $109.00 a small engraved plaque will be placed on the back of the kneeler portion of the new chairs. Monies raised from this project will be used towards the cost of the new kneeler/chairs. This is a wonderful way to remember loved ones. If you are interested in purchasing a commemorative plaque toward the cost of the new chairs, please contact Maria at the Church Office.
For those interested but not able to pick up a form, a downloadable version is available on our Website. Legacy Fund Form
