Summer of 2011
Vacation Bible Camp
Holy Family held its very first Vacation Bible Camp. The Camp ran from July 11 to July 15th from 8:30 to noon each day. The children ranged in age from 4-11 and had an opportunity to learn, have fun and socialize with one another.
There was no cost for children to participate in the camp.
The camp volunteers also had a remarkable experience and there are no shortage of ideas for next year! There are many ways you can help make the next camp another fun and successful event, too! More volunteers, mean more children can participate in this great experience! We would like to thank to the generous support of both the Catholic Women's League and the Knights of Columbus. As well, many thanks to the Holy Family team - Father Vernon, Deacon Howard, Maria and Bill for their encouragement and support. Special shout out to Maria Boudreau for turning our wonderful hall into the Sun Harvest County Fair!
50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
On June 5th, we celebrated with Father Vernon, 50 years of Ordination to priesthood with a giant pot-luck supper, followed by entertainment and many thoughtful presentations, and tributes. We were privileged to celebrate with him this milestone of faithful priestly service to the Archdiocese of Halifax. Members of Father Vernon's family were present, as well as other guests.
We thank the Parish Life Committee for their contribution to the celebration and all who assisted in planning for this celebration with our parish priest.
30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Deacon Rick's 30th! This was truly a time of celebration for Holy Family Parish as Deacon Rick Hartnett celebrated 30 years of ordination to the diaconal ministry in the Archdiocese of Halifax and the church of Amherst. Deacon Rick over the years was also deeply involved within the Atlantic Charismatic Renewal based from the Between the Hearts Renewal Centre in Fort Lawrence. A Mass of Thanksgiving was held on Thursday, June 9th at 7:00pm at the church. Many Deacons and wives from the Archdiocese of Halifax were also present, as this is the annual celebration for deacons held on the Feast of St. Ephrem. St. Ephrem was a deacon and doctor of the church in the third century. A reception hosted by the CWL,followed where Deacon Rick was recognized. Besides Deacon Rick, Deacons Jack MacNeil, Jim Smith and Paul Carnell were also recognized for diaconal service to the archdiocese.
